Event Itinerary
Embark on an unforgettable drive that weaves through the heart of Northumberland, traversing ancient landscapes and picturesque towns, culminating in a scenic journey alongside the historical Hadrian's Wall. This day-long adventure promises not just a drive but an immersive experience into England's rich history and breathtaking natural beauty.
Setting Off Near Hexham (9:30 AM)
Our journey begins near Hexham, a town rich in history and charm, serving as the perfect gateway to the Northumberland National Park. As we gather, the excitement builds for the day ahead, with engines starting and maps at the ready.
Into the Wild (10:00 AM - 11:30 AM)
Heading up through the Kieder Forest, we'll enter the sprawling expanse of the Northumberland National Park. Prepare to be captivated by rolling hills, pristine landscapes, and the serenity that only nature can provide. Our route takes us through rugged terrain and lush valleys, leading us towards the Scottish Borders and up to the historic town of Kelso, where ancient abbeys and cobbled streets are aplenty.
Coastal Cruise to Bamburgh and Seahouses (11:45 AM - 12:30 PM)
Venturing east on the A697, our drive takes a coastal turn towards the majestic shores of Bamburgh and Seahouses. Here, the dramatic coastline unfolds with its iconic castle standing guard over the North Sea. The fresh sea breeze and panoramic views set the stage for a memorable afternoon.
Lunch near Bamburgh (12:30 PM - 2:00 PM)
Nestled within this coastal haven, we've arranged a private dining arrangement at a luxury hotel. Enjoy a special 2-Course Sunday Lunch menu in this secluded countryside retreat. This break offers a moment to relax and share stories from the morning's drive. The lunch will need to be pre-paid and pre-orders will be finalised 7 days before the event. The lunch location will be made available to those who have booked onto the event for security reasons.
Alnwick, Rothbury, and Beyond (2:15 PM - 3:30 PM)
With spirits high and appetites satisfied, we'll continue our journey south to Alnwick, known for its enchanting castle and gardens. The drive then leads us through Rothbury, a picturesque market town nestled within the Coquet Valley, before winding through Kirkwhelpington. Each mile reveals more of Northumberland's hidden gems.
Alongside Hadrian's Wall to Alston (3:45 PM - 4:30 PM)
Our route back aligns with the historic B6318, running parallel to Hadrian's Wall. This iconic landmark serves as a reminder of Britain's Roman past, offering stunning views and a palpable sense of history that stretches across the landscape. Our drive alongside this ancient wall is a journey through time.
Hartside Pass to Penrith (4:45 PM - 5:00 PM)
The final leg of our adventure takes us down into the North Pennines, with its exhilarating bends and elevations offering a driving experience like no other. As we descend towards Alston, the highest market town in England, we prepare for a grand finale down through Hartside Pass - we are confident this is one of the best roads we have driven.
Conclusion at the Rhegged Services (5:15 PM)
As we arrive at our final destination, Rhegged Services, it's time to unwind and reflect on a day filled with adventure, camaraderie, and the discovery of Northumberland's unparalleled beauty.

Optional Saturday Extra!
We will be heading up to Bamburgh Castle on Saturday afternoon for a visit. For those who wish to attend, it would be great to welcome you. I have also reserved 5 double rooms at The George Hotel, near Hexham for the Saturday night. The price includes hotel, dinner & breakfast on the Sunday morning, however, there are ONLY 5 rooms available. It would be great to share a bottle of wine or beer, instead of the usual lemondate during our drives!
